Luxury Leather Dog Collars by Ken Fulk

Luxury Leather Dog Collars by Ken Fulk

Interior Designer Ken Fulk is a legend, literally. Besides being named to Architectural Digest's AD100 and inducted into Hospitality Design's Platinum Circle Hall of Fame, he was the recipient of DesignLA's "Living Legend Award”. So when Ken approached us about producing a collection of leather dog collars, we said yes without hesitation or reservation. Fulk has been a longtime client of Moore & Giles, using our leathers in his legendary hospitality and residential projects for years. This collaboration represents an exciting evolution of that relationship: from specifying our materials to working alongside him to produce his adorable, creative, and luxe collection of leather dog collars.

Handcrafted Leather Dog Collars for Every Breed

-

Working with his master leather craftsman, Fulk designed three collar styles: the Butch for large dogs, the Dashing for medium pups, and the Gentleman for small breeds. The designs on their own were sensational and wholly unique but the leather choice—a sumptuous, verdant shade of our Carolina leather—was truly inspired. Making dog collars interesting, much less beautiful, is about as hard as making a doorbell feel luxurious. And yet! Ken has done it.

Handmade Leather Dog Collars in Our Virginia Workshop

-

Our workshop in Virginia operates behind the scenes. With our own master craftsman at the helm, it is an exclusive shop for product development, custom work, and limited-edition production runs. Working alongside Fulk's team, we re-sampled with subtle refinements, then set to work: cutting, skiving, gluing, edge painting, stitching, riveting, and polishing all seventy-five collars by hand.

Choosing the Right Size for Your Dog Collar

-

Picking the correct collar size is essential for your dog’s comfort and safety. Start by measuring your dog’s neck with a soft tape measure, placing it where the collar will naturally sit. Add about 1 to 2 inches for adjustability so the collar is not too tight or restrictive.

Consider your dog’s breed and activity level. More active dogs may need a slightly snugger fit to prevent slipping, while dogs with thicker fur may require extra space.

Always check the fit after putting the collar on. Two fingers should fit comfortably between the collar and your dog’s neck. Regularly reassess the size, especially for growing puppies, to ensure safety and comfort. Choosing the right size enhances both the look and function of your luxury leather dog collar.

How to Care for Leather Dog Collars

-

Leather collars are durable and stylish, but they need proper care. To keep your leather dog collar soft and long-lasting:

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth to remove dirt and hair.
  • Condition occasionally with a leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to water or direct sunlight.
  • Check hardware regularly for wear to ensure safety.

Proper care keeps the collar comfortable, strong, and beautiful for years.

Are Leather Collars Good for Dogs?

-

Many pet owners wonder, is a leather collar good for dogs? The answer is yes. Leather collars are strong, durable, and comfortable, making them suitable for most breeds. Over time, high-quality leather softens and molds to your dog’s neck, increasing comfort while maintaining its strength.

Leather is also naturally hypoallergenic for most dogs, which reduces the risk of irritation compared with some synthetic materials. Its durability makes it ideal for active dogs, while its classic look adds style for everyday walks, training, or special occasions.

When choosing a leather collar, ensure it fits properly and is cared for correctly to maintain its longevity. With regular cleaning and conditioning, a well-made leather collar can last for many years, combining practicality with timeless elegance.
